Route 162 travels from opposite Highbury and Islington tube station, through Highbury Fields, past Gillespie Park before arriving at Finsbury Park. Sustrans worked with Transport for London and Islington Council to create a shared footway by reallocating space from one of the traffic lanes on this busy one-way gyratory. We have installed new Toucan crossings and created a new shared pedestrian and cycle route through the bus station. We widened footways and reconfigured parking and carriageway markings along Drayton Park and Finsbury Park station. Access to Arsenal Underground station has also been improved with more space for pedestrians at the station entrance and extra cycle parking capacity.
We have taken all responsible steps to ensure that these routes are safe and achievable by people with a reasonable level of fitness. However, all outdoor activities involve a degree of risk. To the extent permitted by law, Sustrans accepts no responsibility for any accidents or injury resulting from following these routes. Walking and cycling routes change over time. Weather conditions may also affect path surfaces. Please use your own judgement when using the routes based upon the weather and the ability, experience and confidence levels of those in your group.
