Route 253 of the National Cycle Network (formerly Regional Route 41) runs in a loop off Route 25, taking in Blandford Forum, Shaftesbury, Gillingham (Dorset), Sturminster Newton and Okeford Fitzpaine.

This route surrounds Route 25 much like a figure of 8, meeting at Gillingham, near Iwerne Minster, and Blandford Forum. The route is a continuous loop except for at Blandford Forum where it breaks at Blandford Bridge to the south-west of the town.

From here it follows Route 250 for a short stretch to the south of the town and then heads south-east sharing with Route 25. Signs for Route 253 begin again at Tarrant Crawford towards Tarrant Keyneston.
