National Route 715 of the National Cycle Network joins Whorlton and Willington via Bishop Auckland and is part of the Walney to Wear and Whitby (W2W) route.

The route offers on-road cycling from Whorlton heading north towards Ingleton.

Before Bishop Auckland, there are a handful of short traffic-free sections. Once through the town, the route becomes the Brandon - Bishop Auckland Railway Path, meeting National Route 70 just before Willington.

In combination with a stretch on National Route 165, this route offers an alternative to National Route 70 along the W2W route between Barnard Castle and Willington.
