National Route 549 of the National Cycle Network connects Hurdlow in the Peak District with Etwall via Waterhouses and Uttoxeter.

This route is currently open in two sections: one between Hurdlow and Waterhouses; one between Uttoxeter and Etwall mirroring the A50 east on minor roads to Hilton before heading north traffic-free to Etwall.

It is presently only proposed between Waterhouses and Uttoxeter. The traffic-free sections are found at most of Hulme End to Waterhouses, and then between Hilton to Etwall.
