Route 236 of the National Cycle Network follows a mix of traffic-free paths and roads in south Hampshire. It has two sections: Cosham to Portchester and from Southampton to Lyndhurst.

This route runs traffic-free between Cosham and Portchester. It then restarts in Southampton City Centre where there are ferry links to the Isle of Wight and Hythe.

There is access to Southampton's major shopping area, cafés, pubs and Southampton Central Rail Station.

On leaving Southampton, the route travels past city parks and heads west to Totton and Ashurst before arriving in Lyndhurst.

The section between Totton and Ashurst is the quietest and takes you to the centre of the New Forest with its shops, cafés, facilities and Visitor Centre.
