Big Pedal is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking and scooting challenge. It inspires pupils, staff and parents to choose human power for their journey to school.
A record 3.8 million journeys were logged during Big Pedal 2019.
“ It was our first year and we didn't really realise how big a thing it was! It was a great way of bringing all interests together and celebrating healthy living practice. ”
Date for 2020
Save the date - Big Pedal will take place in Spring. Dates will be confirmed soon.
How it works
The challenge runs for two weeks and is open to individual classes as well as whole schools. On each day of the challenge, schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils, staff and parents cycling, walking or scooting to school.
A school’s best five days will determine their final position, but they can log journeys on all ten days if they wish.
There are daily prizes up for grabs, including equipment and accessories to help schools travel actively. Free School Resources are available to make the challenges a success.
Check out our Big Pedal information sheet for more details on how the challenge works, FAQ and some of the free resources available to schools.
