Pupil training

Child-Centred Action Days:Your local authority could bring Sustrans in to deliver a day of child-centred training for P5-6 pupils. Ideally designed to be delivered to clusters of 5-6 schools the training aims to give the pupils skills and inspiration to encourage and promote their fellow pupils to be more active on their journeys to school. Through storytelling and creative approaches the engaging sessions ensure that the pupils who attend are thoroughly prepared to change their fellow pupils travel behaviour.

Parent training

School teacher and staff training

Sustrans has Career-Long Professional Learning (CLPL) on offer for teachers and school staff covering our Big Street Survey resources. The Big Street Survey is an exciting free curriculum resource enabling pupils to investigate the area around their school and create a manifesto on how to make their streets safer and greener. These resources are aimed at P6-7 and S1-2. The CLPL is a practical introduction to the Sustrans Big Street Survey resources, how to use them in class and developing a manifesto for the streets around your school.

School Travel Professional Seminars

We also run a number of seminars each year (usually in Autumn) for school travel professionals and partners to come together and share experiences. The seminars provide:

  • Inspiring new local and national initiatives
  • A choice of field trips to see local initiatives in action
  • National policy and practice updates
  • Ideas exchange and sharing good practice from across Scotland
  • Networking opportunities

The seminars are free to attend. We welcome anyone working to improve active travel to school from all sectors including transport, education and health. For more information on these events please email our Education and Young People Team.
