Cardiff Bay Trail

This easy, traffic-free circular trail runs around Cardiff Bay and across to the seaside town of Penarth via Pont y Werin. It's perfect for families and returning cyclists and provides a fantastic opportunity to explore Cardiff Bay's vibrant waterfronts cafés, bars and restaurants, its heritage sites and the fantastic array of activities on offer at the International Sports Village.

Thanks to Pont y Werin, the "People’s Bridge", there is now a complete 4.5-mile circuit around Cardiff Bay. The trail offers a lovely circular ride or walk that links up all the fabulous attractions and activities within Cardiff Bay.

Along the trail there is plenty to see and do. Explore the Bay’s lively bars, cafes, restaurants and heritage sites; take advantage of the array of activities on offer at the International Sports Village, or just relax and unwind as you cycle across the Barrage taking in the coastal views across the Bay and Penarth. The route also boasts many great attractions including Techniquest and the Millennium Centre, and if you have young children the playground halfway across the barrage offers a great pit stop for a picnic or ice-cream.

The construction of the Pont y Werin Bridge was part of a Sustrans project funded by the National Lottery. Cardiff and Penarth are now within easy reach of one another on foot and by bike. The scheme has given people the opportunity to take a leisurely cycle ride or stroll around the picturesque Bay and the iconic bridge has become a beautiful national landmark.
