By avoiding the busy A59 road National Route 636 provides a more safe and scenic route between Knaresborough and Bilton.
This route starts near St James Retail Park in Knaresborough and follows the River Nidd on quiet roads through the town. Travelling across the river the route takes you on a traffic-free path until Bilton Hall Drive where you pick up Bilton Lane.
At Bilton the route connects to National Route 67, a section known as the Nidderdale Greenway, providing a traffic-free path all the way to Ripley.
