Temporary Closure of Route 64 (Nutbrook Trail) – July to August 2025
A section of Route 64, known as the Nutbrook Trail, between Crompton Road and the Erewash Canal in Ilkeston will be closed from early July 2025. This closure is due to the redevelopment of the adjacent New Stanton Park.
A new, improved path is being constructed through the business park to replace the existing route. This will provide a safer and more direct connection between the Nutbrook Trail and the Erewash Canal, removing the need to cross Crompton Road.
Works to relocate the current path will take place throughout July and into early August. During this time, this section of the trail will be inaccessible.
An alternative route is available via Crompton Road and Hallam Fields Road. Please plan your journey in advance and allow extra time if travelling in this area.
We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience during these improvements.
Route 64 starts out on the Northamptonshire-Leicestershire border at the pretty town of Market Harborough where it travels north. The route resumes at, Melton Mowbray, which is well worth a stop-off. Known as the home of the pork pie, there is a farmer's market here every Tuesday which dates back to 1077. The route continues until there is a gap around Bottesford where the route then continues onto Newark-on-Trent.
