Lôn Las Cymru from Holyhead to Cardiff or Chepstow

Lon Las Cymru is one of the most challenging long-distance cycle routes on the National Cycle Network. It takes you on a journey from the North to the South of Wales through three mountain ranges and two national parks. As you cycle the route you’ll enjoy woodlands, mountains and river valleys.

Up for a challenge? Lôn Las Cymru runs for over 370 miles down the whole length of Wales from Holyhead to Chepstow or Cardiff. It is one of the toughest of all the long-distance routes on the National Cycle Network. It’s an amazing experience for long-distance cycle tourers or bikepackers who are looking for an adventure.

From Holyhead in the north to Cardiff or Chepstow in the south, the spectacular Lôn Las Cymru runs the entire length of Wales. It can also be broken down into shorter sections and we have two separate route pages which describe the southern and northern sections.

Lôn Las Cymru has over 250 miles of quiet lanes and family-friendly traffic-free cycle paths that take you over three distinct mountain ranges and two national parks. Along the way you’ll appreciate the changing scenery as you traverse the length of Wales. Lôn Las Cymru takes in some of the most stunning and diverse landscapes in the British Isles.

As it includes three mountain ranges the route requires a good pair of lungs and a strong pair of legs. However, the rewards are more than worth it. The scenery is incredible. You’ll cycle through the quiet rural lanes of Anglesey, the majestic woodlands of Coed-y-Brenin Forest, the atmospheric Mawddach Estuary and the lovely valley of the River Wye. You’ll also enjoy panoramic views from Gospel Pass as the route passes through the Black Mountains.
Wales is a small country with an amazing diversity of landscapes. Lôn Las Cymru is ideal for people who are looking for a challenge, enjoy hill climbs and want an opportunity to appreciate the beauty and variety of this part of the UK.
