This route has it all - winding country lanes, pretty villages and panoramic views. Dartmoor is the largest and wildest area of open country in Southern England and its moorland is breathtakingly scenic. The route passes through or near Bovey Tracey, Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Ivybridge, Yelverton, Tavistock, Okehampton, Chagford and Moretonhampstead.
The Dartmoor Way offers many possibilities for a break away - from an energetic day trip or weekend, to a full five to seven day holiday. The route can be cycled in either direction but travelling anti-clockwise is recommended because, for many of the junctions crossing traffic is avoided, and the hills are slightly more forgiving this way round.
Watch out for the Dartmoor Way Cycle Route waymarkers on signposts along the route.
