Our commitment to adjustments and support

At Sustrans, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all individuals, recognising that each person's unique needs and circumstances are valued and respected.

This commitment begins right from the initial application process and extends throughout your journey with us.

Application and interview adjustments

We understand that the path to securing a role can be challenging and that some individuals may require specific adjustments to ensure a fair and accessible interview process.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you need assistance.

Here are some examples of adjustments you can request:

  • application forms in a different format,
  • a copy of interview questions up to an hour in advance,
  • access to your own notes and the ability to write notes during the interview,
  • extra time for interview questions and tasks,
  • to ask interviewers to repeat questions,
  • for interviewers to type the interview questions in the chat box of virtual interviews,
  • for a British Sign Language interpreter.

If you have any reasonable adjustments in mind that are not mentioned above, please let us know, and we will do our utmost to accommodate your request.

Please see ACAS’ page for further information regarding reasonable adjustments.

Please also note that all Sustrans hubs are wheelchair accessible, ensuring that physical access is not a barrier to your engagement with us.

Workplace adjustments

Once you've successfully secured a role at Sustrans, our commitment to your wellbeing and comfort continues.

Some provisions we already have in place include:

All Sustrans employees have access to Office 365, which includes a range of valuable built-in accessibility tools including text readers, dictation and transcription features, and automatic accessibility suggestions for emails and documents.

It's important to emphasise that reasonable adjustments will be assessed on an individual basis, taking into account your specific needs and compatibility with our existing facilities and IT/software setup.

Wellbeing, connection and growth

We believe that nurturing the wellbeing, connection, and personal growth of our team members is pivotal to our collective success.

Here are some examples of what we do to ensure our employees are included and supported:

  • Our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP): All colleagues have access to Health Assured, which provides assistance in dealing with personal and professional challenges that could be affecting your home or work life, health, and general wellbeing.
  • Networks: We have established various networks that serve as a safe space to discuss your personal experiences. These include our Progress Pride Network, People of Colour Network, Women's Network, Neurodiversity Network, and Carers' Network.
  • Webinars, training courses and additional resources: These initiatives help you stay connected with Sustrans' news and developments, as well as develop your professional skills and expand your understanding of wider issues and topics.

Our commitment to inclusivity and support isn't just a statement; it's a reflection of our values.

At Sustrans, we stand together to achieve our goals, ensuring that every voice is heard and every individual is empowered to thrive.
