What is Gift Aid?

If you are a UK taxpayer you can increase the value of your gift to Sustrans, at no extra cost to you, by signing a Gift Aid declaration. With your permission, the Inland Revenue allows us to claim the basic rate tax on your gift or an extra 25p for every pound you donate. For example, a donation of £30 with gift aid allows us to claim an additional £7.50.

Who is eligible for Gift Aid?

In order to sign up for Gift Aid, you must be a UK taxpayer and understand that if you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year it is your responsibility to pay any difference. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim further tax relief on your Self-Assessment tax return.

How do I sign up for Gift Aid?

There are a number of ways you can make a Gift Aid declaration:

  • complete the Gift Aid section when making an online donation
  • download a Gift Aid form (.DOC) and send it to us
  • call us on 0300 303 2604 to make a verbal declaration or request a Gift Aid form.

Please let us know if you change your name or address, or if you no longer pay sufficient tax on your income or capital gains to qualify for Gift Aid. You can cancel your declaration at any time by calling us on the above number.
