Why become a Sustrans volunteer?

Our volunteers are fundamental in looking after the National Cycle Network and supporting others to be more active.

Take an active role in your local community, encourage people to cycle more, get fitter and make new friends!

We are looking to expand our group in Thurrock where our volunteer group leader organises monthly tasks. These may include short litter picks, clearing vegetation and making sure routes are clearly signed.

If you're looking for more opportunities to get involved, you can find out more about volunteering for Sustrans here.

What does a Sustrans volunteer ranger do?

Sustrans rangers are our eyes and ears on the ground.

You will be helping us to make the National Cycle Network better by completing small tasks to keep the Network in good condition.

We are also looking for volunteers to audit routes and to make the Network easier to use and access.

Time commitment

Ride a part of the National Cycle Network once a month or more if you can.

There is also some initial online training to attend and we'll ask you to keep informed through annual training delivered by your staff lead.

Training and support offered

An initial induction is provided through online training and a Zoom meeting.

Further training is available depending on the level of tasks and how much you'd like to commit. This will be agreed when you start your volunteering, and is mostly delivered online.

Safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk
