Why become a Sustrans volunteer?

You will work with our volunteers and staff to help promote Sustrans and other projects which encourage and support people to travel in ways which benefit their health and the environment. Communication is a big part of this role, as well as making volunteering fun for all locally.

What does a Sustrans volunteer group coordinator do?

Group coordinators are responsible for coordinating volunteer activities in an agreed geographical area. This involves motivating a volunteer group to carry out a range of tasks aimed at maintaining and enhancing the National Cycle Network, supporting Sustrans’ projects in the area and/or promoting sustainable travel.

Group coordinators often carry out another volunteer role in addition, often that of route maintenance volunteer.

Communication is essential to the role, so time will be spent communicating and responding to volunteers in the group and with the volunteer co-ordinator and volunteer staff.

This is an ongoing role and is not generally suitable for short term volunteer placements, unless as a temporary measure.
