What does a Sustrans barrier auditor do?

We're looking for volunteer barrier auditors to support our Paths for Everyone aim to create a safe and accessible Network of paths that can be used and enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age, ability or circumstance.

As a barrier auditor, you will help us to audit barriers on traffic-free National Cycle Network routes across the Midlands and East.

The purpose of this audit is to identify access controls and other restrictions that discriminate against some users and prevent them from using these paths. Addressing those barriers is essential to ensure the Network meets current equalities legislation and is inclusive to all.

With support from Sustrans staff you will undertake the following tasks:

  • Attend initial training to learn what information we need to gather and why
  • Use our online tool to allocate yourself sections of Network to audit
  • Record required audit information accurately on the smartphone-based survey
  • Undertake all work in line with Sustrans training and guidance.
