Route Description

This surprisingly green route takes you between two of South Yorkshire’s main urban areas, Sheffield and Rotherham, using a traffic-free greenway along the canal and the River Don Valley, passing the shopping mecca of Meadowhall.

Please Note - this route is currently undergoing improvements and there may be diversions off the traffic-free route onto nearby main roads.

The route follows the River Don out of Sheffield and travels past Salmon Pastures Nature Reserve, home to an abundance of plants and insects.  This small but important wildlife haven is a great place to spot rare butterflies.

From here the route continues through Newhall and Carbrook, where you can visit Carbrook Hall, which is now a public house, and was originally built in 1176.  It claims to be Sheffield's most haunted house! From here it's a short ride to Meadowhall where you can find shops, cinema and plenty of places to eat and drink.

From here the route continues past the New York Stadium, home to Rotherham United, arriving at Rotherham Train Station.  You can either re-trace your route or hop on the train back to Sheffield.
