Route 648

National Route 648 of the National Cycle Network connects Route 680 near Bakewell in the Peak District with NCN 6 at Sherwood Forest via Baslow, Chesterfield, Bolsover, Shirebrook and Warsop. See text below for details of open sections.

Route Description

Route 648 is currently only open between Shirebrook Rail Station and Sherwood Forest via Market Warsop. From Shirebrook Station the route is first traffic-free, then traffic-free alongside the B6031, then traffic-free before travelling along Burns Lane and Broomhill Lane. It then heads traffic-free into Sherwood Forest to join NCN 6.
 
Route Details

Distance: 5 miles
Type: Over 2/3 of the route is traffic-free, split into two sections. The section into Sherwood Forest does not involve a section alongside the road, so is likely to be more attractive for leisure cycling, also meeting with a very long stretch of Route 6 which is also traffic-free.
