Route 549

National Route 549 of the National Cycle Network connects Hurdlow in the Peak District with Etwall via Waterhouses and Uttoxeter. See text below for details of open sections.

Route Details

  • Distance: 15 miles
  • Type: Mainly traffic free between Hurdlow and Waterhouses. There is also a traffic-free section following the trackbed of an old railway line between Hilton in S. Derbyshire and Etwall.
  • The section between Waterhouses and HUlme End is known as the Manifold Trail and follows the old Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway
 
Route Description
 
The route is currently open in two sections: one between Hurdlow and Waterhouses; one between Uttoxeter and Etwall mirroring the A50 east on minor roads to Hilton before heading north traffic-free to Etwall. It is presently only proposed between Waterhouses and Uttoxeter.  The traffic free sections are found at most of Hulme End to Waterhouses, and then between Hilton to Etwall.
