In Northern Ireland we support employers to encourage their employees to consider active travel in their daily routine.

Our work brings real benefits by promoting staff health and well-being, reduces absenteeism, increases productivity and saves organisations money.

Leading the Way with Active Travel

This three year programme started in Autumn 2014, and was commissioned by the Public Health Agency to get people more active on their journeys to and from work and daily routine.

It focuses on a number of large employers in the Belfast area: the Public Health Agency itself, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, Belfast City Council, Health and Social Care Board, and Business Services Organisation. In 2016 we extended the programme to the north west where we are working with a number of employers including Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Active Belfast Challenge

A highlight of the Leading The Way programme is the Active Belfast Challenge, an annual online competition to log journeys by foot, bike or public transport.

Over 50 workplaces registered for the Challenge in May 2016, making 30,000 active and sustainable journeys and burning almost 5 million calories.

Why don't you sign up your workplace in 2017. Contact us to find out how to get involved.

We want to work with a range of workplaces across Northern Ireland.
