Andy joined the CityConnect Cycles training in Batley, West Yorkshire. He is currently job seeking and wants to get more confident in cycling to be able to travel to job interviews or travel to late shifts. He was eligible for a free bike at the end of the course.
"I got my bike stolen from my friend’s garden in the last few weeks, so I jumped at the chance to join this course. I’m really enjoying being back on the bike. We did a maintenance session first then we met today to practice cycling. The bike means I’ll be mobile again and I can do all the things I want to do again.
“ A bike is essential for job seeking, getting about, shopping. ”
"I recently trained as a security guard and I’m waiting for my licence, so I’m looking for work in that.
"Hopefully, I’ll be back in work soon. I was in the building trade for around 20 years, I was a skilled tiler and level 3 building, but I got deep vein thrombosis and I was ill for six years. I wasn’t able to walk for some time.
"A bike is essential for job seeking, getting about, shopping. I can’t afford a car, I had one in the past but not anymore. I can’t walk very far, so a bike is good."
