Join us for a family fun-filled weekend in Newport

Join us for two days on Newport's first annual celebration of cycling. Dust off the bikes, gather the family, and come out to experience all the fun through our local communities in a safe, healthy, and social way.

Our FREE cycling festival will be based at the historic Tredegar House and Newport Wetlands National Reserve, where Sustrans Cymru will be hosting guided rides, Changing Gearz will offer cycle proficiency training, bike inspections by Dr. Bike, Savage Skills mtb stunt shows, along with a great selection of stalls and pitches from local to national organisations offering professional advice and cycling related goods.

Saturday Events:

Level 1 Cycle Training

Location: Tredegar House Fairgrounds 
Time(s): 11:00 am & 1:00 pm

Children ages 8 - 12 can take FREE Level 1 Bicycle Proficiency training offered by Changing Gearz. Essential skills cover: basic starting & stopping, maneuvering, turning with hand signals, hazard awareness & avoidance, cycle safety, and bicycle “ABC” checks. Tuition includes a certificate for Cycling Proficiency Level One!.

Dr. Bike Inspections & Services

Location: Tredegar House Fairgrounds 
Time: ALL day Saturday

Have the bikes been sitting in the garden shed for a while? Do you think they might need a mechanic to look them over? Changing Gearz will also be providing basic check-ups and minor bike services on site all day. So bring out your bike, get a professional check-up, and join us for a family ride. You've no excuses now!

Young Explorer Ride

Location: Newport Wetlands National Reserve 
Time: 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm 
Distance: 3 miles

Families are encouraged to sign up for a FREE guided ride at Newport Wetlands National Reserve on Saturday afternoon. Children can try out new skills and get a taste of cycling in groups whilst cruising along traffic-free paths in a beautiful, safe and healthy environment. Additionally, there will even be an opportunity to explore the wetlands on foot with a personally guided tour! All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Sit back and relax... as we'll load your bikes then transport you and your family safely and securely for FREE to Newport Wetlands National Reserve via Newport Bus. PLUS! We'll bring you back at the end of the ride. It's that easy!

Sunday Events:

Sustrans Cymru will be hosting two adult-oriented cycle rides on Sunday. Both destinations start at Tredegar House and follow (mostly) traffic-free cycle routes along the National Cycle Network. Both routes are designed for beginner to intermediate riders. Adults can choose from two fantastic destinations... reserve your place now.

Explorer Ride

Start Location: Tredegar House Car Park 
Destination: Newport Wetlands National Reserve 
Time: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm 
Distance: approx. 20 miles (round-trip)

Starting at Tredegar House car park we'll cycle along Route 4 to Newport Wetlands National Nature Reserve via the Newport Transporter Bridge. Once there, we'll follow the spectacular coastal path circling the wetlands, stopping at the RSPB visitor centre for a lunch break and guided walk before heading back to Tredegar House for a private picnic in the gardens.

Discovery Ride

Start Location: Tredegar House Car Park 
Destination: National Roman Legion Museum Caerleon 
Time: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm 
Distance: approx. 20 miles (round-trip)

Also leaving from the car park at Tredegar House, this ride will begin on NCN Route 4 then head up NCN Route 88 along the Newport Riverfront. We'll then follow along the historic Afon Wysg (Usk River), past the Roman baths and amphitheatre, culminating at the National Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon. We'll pause here for a short break where you can tour the museum and have tea/coffee. We'll then return along the same route reaching Tredegar House to join in the private picnic in the gardens.
