Ellacombe Road key evaluation results
Surveys were undertaken at the outset of the project and again at the end of the project. Below is a synopsis of the results:
Safer:
86% of residents agree that traffic speeds have been reduced
64% of residents agree that traffic volumes have been reduced
This is further backed up by traffic speed counts which were conducted at the outset and again when the project was complete showing a 7 mile per hour drop in the average speed of vehicles from 25 mph to 18.
57% of residents now feel that their street is safe for children to play on, a huge increase from 4% at the outset
Greener:
50% of residents say the street is greener and more attractive than it was
Sense of community:
71% now feel that the street is pedestrian friendly, up from only 21% at the outset
65% of residents surveyed say they are socialising with people in their street who they didn't know before
Recommendation:
Almost 70% of those surveyed would recommend DIY Streets to their friends, family and neighbouring streets
Additional or ongoing resident involvement:
The residents have set up a constituted residents group as well as a gardening group to maintain the planters in the street and are planning on entering Torquay in Bloom later this year.
