Killamarsh, Halfway Tram Terminus and Rother Country Park
This innovative Connect2 scheme aims to connect communities to the revitalised Chesterfield Canal, the Sheffield Tram and to the Rother Valley. The project will use new bridges, canal paths, disused railway lines, and reclamation sites to create an integrated walking and cycling network that will connect communities to each other through attractive local green spaces. Local areas of South Rotherham, South East Sheffield and North East Derbyshire will all benefit.
From Halfway tram stop at the edge of Sheffield, existing walking and cycling routes will be used to James Walton drive, before following a new path which will run parallel to, but away from the busy main road.
Two new bridges will be built across the river and the railway and embankments will be added. The route will then cross Forge Lane and climb the newly installed ramp up onto the Trans Pennine Trail. From here, pedestrians and cyclists will be able to access the Chesterfield Canal Greenway to the south or turn north and use another new ramp to access Rother Valley Country Park, or continue north along the Trans Pennine Trail. Construction of the ramp from Forge Lane to the Trans Pennine Trail is currently underway.
Killamarsh Portrait Bench
The Portrait Bench is a simple bench with three life-size effigies of local heroes, chosen by the local community to represent their culture and history. The portraits were chosen through public nominations and then a public vote, the final chosen characters are Corporal Liam Riley, Colin Savage, and Clinton Woods. Each character chosen for this scheme has made a significant contribution to the community in some way. For more information on the bench download the portrait bench leaflet. (pdf)
