Newport to Caerleon
Although Caerleon is not far from Newport, the main road is circuitous and whilst Pillmawr Road appears a direct route, it is narrow, busy and extremely hilly. This proposal creates a level riverside route giving direct access from Malpas and central Newport to the university campus at Caerleon, the old hospital site, the remains of Isca Roman Legionary Fortress, the Celtic Manor Resort and Wentwood Forest beyond.
This connection makes such a necessary link that it will change many people's mental maps of their local area, especially once Newport has completed new developments at Crindau and a link to Shaftsbury Park that avoids the industrial area.
