Dartford Riverside

Dartford imageAn amazing feature of this ambitious project is the physical diversion of the river through one half of the existing twin bore tunnels.  The inspirational new design will give the much needed access to walkers and cyclists and additional links will also be developed along the Darent Valley Path which will provide direct connections to the town centre, Central Park and the railway station.

Currently, cyclists and pedestrians in Dartford must negotiate busy roads including Bob Dunn Way, Princes Road and Mill Pond, as well as crossing the River Darent.

The Darent Valley Path is the existing, long distance walking route that follows the River Darent from the Thames down to Sevenoaks.  A combination of new and existing crossings will overcome these difficulties.  Bridges over the River Darent will link Brent Lane with Lowfield Street, creating a new direct link across the town, which will be particularly benefit local schoolchildren, enabling them to make everyday school journeys by foot or by bike.

Much of this route is planned to eventually be converted for shared use by bike and will become part of the wider National Cycle Network.
