Carlton-le-Moorland and Bassingham Pathway
For several years, there has been demand for a safe walking and cycling route linking Carlton le Moorland and the neighbouring, larger village of Bassingham. This scheme will provide this new traffic-free path, running from Broughton Lane in Carlton le Moorland to Eastgate in Bassingham, passing the gates of Bassingham's primary school and will link to the centre of each village, avoiding the single road between them which carries fast-moving traffic.
New connections will be made to all local roads, so that the path becomes accessible to as many people as possible. The new route will also enable residents and schoolchildren to walk and cycle safely between both villages, to go to school and to the shops. Our 2006 questionnaire attracted 90% support for the new traffic free path, with over 50% of households indicating they would use the pathway at least once a week, including wheelchair users and people with mobility scooters.

The Carlton le Moorland and Bassingham Portrait Bench
As part of a unique national public art project, each new route will have a fantastic bench installed alongside a section of the path, a Portrait Bench. The bench will feature three life-size effigies of characters chosen by the local community to represent the culture and history of the area.
