Connecting Salisbury, Alderbury and Wilton

31/01/11 Latest news:

The Highways Agency is currently designing the new toucan crossing on the A36 at Petersfinger.  This will be near the bus stop on the south side.  Due to lack of funding, construction will not go ahead in 2011.  A decision on budget will be made in January 2012 with the aim of getting this built later in the year.  Wiltshire Council is putting together designs for the connecting path and Sustrans is also in negotiations with local landowners.  A planning application for the link between Quidhampton and Park Walls Junction and Wilton roundabout is being submitted in February with the aim of construction taking place during 2011.

The walking and cycling path between Park Walls Junction and Wilton roundabout will be completed by spring 2011.  However the links from Wilton roundabout into the centre of Wilton are not going ahead, at the moment. It is hoped that these will be funded as part of the UK Land Forces redevelopment but this is unlikely to be before the Connect2 project comes to an end in 2013.

The walking and cycling route near Salisbury train station at Churchfields Road has been postponed because of the high cost in the current financial climate but it is hoped that this can be done as part of future developments on Churchfields Industrial Estate.  The design work done to date will be used as part of the Salisbury Vision master plan.  This is for a number of key sites throughout Salisbury which have been identified for re-development.
