Bristol, Ashton Park, Long Ashton and links to Nailsea and Backwell

bristol imageThe Festival Way aims to overcome the major barrier to walking and cycling along a corridor stretching from the Cumberland Basin in Bristol through to Millennium Park in Nailsea, the main A370. The Festival Way seeks to avoid this main road with a largely traffic free route via the villages of Flax Bourton and Long Ashton, and will provide the most attractive approach to the major festival site of Ashton Court.

Community consultation will be carried out as each section of the route approaches a stage when applications for planning permission can be submitted. The Festival Way currently has a Steering Group that meets every quarter. There is also a Sub-Group that deals specifically with the crossing of the Cumberland Basin. Members of the Steering Group include, Town and Parish Councillors; the Local Access Forum; Community Representatives; Council Officers; CTC Right to Ride Representatives and Sustrans Rangers.

The Festival Way has been gathering pace over recent months - you may have seen the launch of the first phase of the Connect2 project in Bristol during the Balloon Fiesta weekend, the opening of a new route connecting the Create Centre with Ashton Court.  A new toucan crossing has also been installed on Clanage Road to allow pedestrians and cyclists to get to Ashton Court much more safely.
