Strabane, River Mourne Bridge and links

An iconic new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists is set to become an exciting, new addition to the landscape of Strabane, enabling walkers and cyclists to cross the Mourne River.  The new bridge will provide a safer alternative to the narrow, busy shared use road bridge which currently exists and will link various local amenities currently cut off from each other by the river, including several churches, the health centre, schools and Melmount Leisure Facilities.

Strabane Connect2 scheme imageHigh quality walking and cycling routes on either side of the bridge will make this crossing easily accessible to local people.  The bridge will also provide opportunities for local schoolchildren to make everyday school journeys by foot or by bike to the Holycross school, on the nearby Melmount Road.

The bridge will link to the existing National Cycle Network Route 92 running through Strabane from nearby between Lifford and Sion Mills.
