Omagh, riverside path and new bridges
This scheme will extend the riverside path from the town centre across former Ministry of Defence land linking into Strathroy housing estate, creating an attractive riverside walking and cycling route linking to the town centre, enabling local residents to make local journeys more easily and directly.
Three bridges are proposed in the scheme which will overcome the barrier of the river and will link residents at nearby housing estates with industrial area as well as leisure facilities including the local cinema complex. The current 20 minute drive through the town, will be greatly reduced with the average new journey by foot or bike taking at least half the time.
The section of path from Bridge Street past the arts centre to Abbey Bridge is now open giving a new access route to the town centre alongside the river.
