Newtownabbey, Three Mile Water greenway

This scheme a new section of  National Cycle Network Route 93 aims to reach communities either side of the Three Mile Water Valley before dipping under an impressive cluster of three railway viaducts and bridges to meet the existing promenade along Belfast Lough.  Once completed, the Newtownabbey Way will run from Global Point at Corr's Corner to the lough shore at Whiteabbey joining the Lagan and Lough Cycleway, Route 93 which runs alongside Belfast Lough into Belfast City Centre.

In March, the Mayor of Newtownabbey Borough Council officially launched the completion of works to date on the Newtonabbey Way.  Partners, local school children, members of the community and volunteers all enjoyed a cycle up the path from the Viaducts to the new bridge at Monkstown where the Mayor cut a ribbon to celebrate progress so far.

Work on the last section is due to commence early in 2012. The Portrait Bench will become a focus for the community over the coming months.
