Ballymoney Railway Bridge and links
This Connect2 scheme in Ballymoney will create a fantastic, traffic-free route from the leisure centre on the south side of town, to the town centre making use of beautiful green open spaces along the way, including the picturesque area of Riverside Park.
An iconic, new bridge over the railway will be the focus of this route and will replace the existing, unmanned railway level crossing, connecting the expanding community with a more direct link to and from the town's facilities.
This bridge and its connecting network of paths will effectively link the north and the south of the town for journeys by foot and bike. Residents and schoolchildren will benefit from improved access to the train station, local schools, Riverside Park and the leisure centre.
Beginning at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, the recently constructed greenway runs north into Riverside Park which has a network of walking and cycling paths and forms part of National Cycle Network Route 96. The project includes a number of links from the greenway to provide local people with better access to the new route. These have now been completed and work on the bridge is due to comence early in 2012.
