Padiham, East Lancashire Loop
This scheme will convert the old railway from Padiham to Burnley to a linear park, with additional links to the Weavers Triangle in Burnley, the town centres, employment areas and schools. In the long-term it is hoped to extend the route along the old railway to Great Harwood with a continuous off-road route from Blackburn to Barnoldswick. This central greenway will be a wonderful resource for walking and cycling and can be promoted as a catalyst for change to encourage active and sustainable transport in the area.
The Padiham scheme took part in a week long Connect2 Day this year with a fantastic amount of different events and celebrations, all organised by the steering group. Events included, a family wildlife walk, The Big Dribble sponsored football event, Community Cycle rides, Heritage and arts exhibition, Photography competitions, Art displays, face painting, Bling your Bike.
All the Connect2 Day activities were organised and brought together by the different steering group sub-committee members, including representatives from the local Football Club, local History Society and Countryside Rangers this enabled a wide variety of different types of activities to be organised and enabled members of the local community to celebrate this fantastic Connect2 scheme.
