Norwich

The new walking and cycling network being developed in Norwich has undergone some changes to the original scheme planned.

The new network of cycling and walking routes will now link Norwich Station and the riverside paths with Norwich City Centre as well as Lakenham Way and Mousehold Heath.  The proposed scheme will enable local people to make their everyday journeys by foot and by bike on a series of traffic free paths.

Construction of the revised network of routes will be carried out in a number of stages and consultation is already underway to finalise the details.  Work on the routes is likely to start in summer 2012 and aim to be complete by Christmas 2012.

In the future the new paths will link into a fantastic new bridge that is proposed to cross the River Wensum along with other potential routes through the new riverside development.

Huge efforts were made to deliver the original planned route, which hoped to improve access along and across the Rivers Wensum and Yare, linking together Norwich Station, riverside paths, and Whitlingham Country Park.  However, due to the complex land situation and the financial climate completion of these routes were not possible during the funding period.
