James joined Sustrans in August 2011
“I’m very excited about the opportunity to work with Sustrans and share my passion for cycling” Having been brought up in the Scottish Borders, cycling, as well as rugby were the natural sports to get involved in. Living within 10 miles of both Glentress and Innerleithen gave me the opportunity to ride some of the best terrain around.
After studying Sports Coaching and Development in Edinburgh and working as a personal trainer James went onto travel, and surf, around Australia and New Zealand, further developing a knowledge and passion for sports development. On his return he took up the post of Rugby Development Officer for Moray in the North of Scotland. As well as working with school pupils and local clubs this led to becoming a qualified UKCC coach educator, and working with elite players including head coaching Scotland Woman’s U18 squad. Now as a cycling officer with Sustrans, James is looking forward to sharing his passion for cycling both as a sport and a mode of transport with local Fife schools.

What’s James up to?
As I Bike is new to fife I spend the majority of last term recruiting 11 new schools each with their own bike crew, holding first meeting’s and assemblies as well as arranging dates and events for the winter term.
Now that we’re into the winter term and the run to Christmas amongst other exciting activities we have 22 events planned, 2 in each school. These include bike maintenance sessions, high visibility days and helmet safety checks we hope that this will ensure the safety of school pupils as the days draw shorter and the wintry weather gets closer.
