Simon joined Sustrans in April 2007

"Who could ask for a better job? I'm passionate about cycling, recycling and our environment. My love of bikes started the day my dad let go of the saddle and my horizon broadened. My love was rekindled in my 20's when I cycled around the entire coast of Britain looking for summer season work. There's an extraordinary freedom in being able to stop and chat with fascinating people, feeling fit as a flea and being ozone friendly as well. The feeling has stuck with me ever since.

"I've never met a child that doesn't like cycling - and bikes are such a crucial factor in developing their independence, freedom and understanding of the roads. Cycling answers so many of today's big issues with health, the environment and sustainability that I feel especially lucky to be working at the heart of it all and promoting cycling with Bike It."

Before joining Bike It, Simon was a special education teacher, a Day Centre Officer and an actor working in Theatre In Education and in Coronation Street!

Simon's schools for 2011/12:

What's Simon up to?

With so many Bike It schools there's little time to waste. Simon (known as Mr. Bike It) is intensively supporting his latest batch of new Bike It schools throughout this academic year. He enables his schools and their local community to overcome any barriers that exist to cycling which then makes cycling and walking the school run an obvious option for the children and adults.

Sustrans Bike It is about rediscovering the joy of cycling for loads of grown ups and about overcoming often simple barriers that stop children from experiencing the joy of cycling for the first time. Happy days.
