Andy joined Sustrans in November 2008
"For some time now I've wanted to work in an area closer to either my degree subject (Environmental Science) or my main hobby (triathlon). The opportunity to combine these together and introduce cycling to a new generation was too good to miss! Putting on high-profile events and activites is such good fun, and gets a great response every time. Sometimes it's the little things that can make a big difference though, and my inner tube recycling sessions are a good example of this. School kids in Bury will soon be making their own juggling balls and skipping ropes from old inner tubes. The skipping ropes are a great activity as we can talk about the craft of making them, the benefits of reusing the tube versus discarding it and the positive impacts of active play. Things like this reach the non-cyclist as well as those already cycling in, so are in many ways more important than just working with those arriving at school with their bikes."
Before joining the Bike It team Andy was a Bikeability Instructor with Coventry City Council. He's just moved up from Coventry to replace Sam as Bike It officer for Bury.

What’s Andy up to?
A really good term in Trafford with lots of pupils learning how to fix punctures, many more taking part in The Big Pedal, and some joining in with BMX racing on the playground.
This term will see more pupils working on their cycle skills, plus family bike rides (weather permitting!)
