Clare joined Sustrans in January 2008

"I remember learning to cycle in my parent's back garden many years ago. It was a long, thin garden with flower beds on both sides so I only learnt how to cycle in straight lines as I had to get off my bike at the end to turn around! I still recall the sense of achievement when we took the stabilisers off and I gained my own independence to cycle around the park. I now use my bike to cycle around town and blast around Bracknell Forest at the weekends. I'm really glad to be working in a position where I can help other young people develop their own independence and where I can watch their cycling confidence grow.

I am thoroughly looking forward to the chance of doing an energetic job and to actively promote positive values in the community. I'm anticipating getting to know a responsive, intelligent team of dynamic young minds across the 12 schools I'll be working with each year. I can't wait to get going to help them understand the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and how they can achieve that by enjoying themselves on a bike."

Before joining the Bike It team, Clare worked at the Environment Agency, Bracknell Council and Rushmoor Council. She has a geography degree, and whilst studying she worked in a Special Educational Needs school in Reading.

Clare's schools for 2011/12:

What's Clare up to?

Summer 2011 was another busy term for Bike It in Slough and South Bucks. With 4 schools looking to submit their Silver School Mark soon and lots of other schools working towards Bronze there have been some brilliant events this year. Highlights from the term include getting some new riders at Farnham Common Infants and Godolphin Juniors onto bikes for the first time, some busy Dr Bike days and of course St Marys school incentive scheme - taking the school from no cyclists to over 60 a day for 5 weeks. Since then two schools have achieved their Silver School Mark award (Pippins and St Nicolas in Taplow), and 4 new schools have joined the project for the new year.
