Louise joined the Bike It project in March 2008
I have been incredibly lucky to be apart of the bike it project during it's pilot phase for the past three years in Neath Port Talbot until July 2011. Together with the schools and local authority we really made a difference to children cycling and in the process trebled the amount of children choosing to cycle to school. I met some fantastic people who helped me achieve these results in schools and I hope to build upon everything I have learnt during this time to now begin working with Bridgend from August 2011.
I hope to inspire and show the school community how easy it really can be to cycle as a viable alternative to children being bought to school by car. I have always loved using the outdoor environment to keep fit - as it's a great opportunity to appreciate your surroundings. Outside of work I enjoy mountain biking, cycle touring, sea kayaking, sailing, skiing, canoeing and a little bit of surfing! I'm an ardent supporter of the positive effects that having an active lifestyle can bring and I'm hoping to bring this to my role here in Bridgend."
Before joining Sustrans Louise worked as a sports development co-ordinator at Cardiff University. She has also worked as a youth worker on an anti-social behaviour project with young people in Newport and as a Duke of Edinburgh project worker. She has a degree in sport development and business management and holds various outdoor activity coaching awards.

What's Louise up to?
I would like to thank staff within the Communities Directorate at Bridgend council, who have been a huge support in helping to gain local knowledge. With their help we have begun working with schools very quickly and we're embedding a cycling culture to change travel behaviour. Great first term in Bridgend, the school’s have been incredible and super keen to get pupils cycling to school. We’ve already had some fantastic events including a cycle to school day at Maes-yr Haul where 230 pupils cycled in. Another impressive effort was made by pupils at Cefn Cribwr Primary where 85% of pupils from year’s 3 – 6 travelled to school by bike for a Bike It event!
