Sam joined Sustrans in August 2011

“I moved to London 4 years ago and have spent the past 3 of those years never far from a bike. Cycling around London was a revelation; all of a sudden I could get from east to west in under half an hour, and I discovered places I would previously never have been to. Riding a bike puts you in touch with the world you live in. It’s also great for your health and the environment, which is a bonus!”

“I worked previously on a project promoting healthy lifestyles amongst over 50s in Hackney. Although very rewarding, I found it much harder to motivate adults to take up exercise than I do with children.  I really believe that cycling has the potential to change lives, so every kid that gets on a bike because of my work as a Bike It officer is little tiny victory for me!”

Sam’s School’s for 2011/12

What Sam’s up to?

My first term as a Bike It Officer has been fantastic. I have taken on a lot of brilliant schools from the previous BIO but also have had the chance to launch two of my own! I have organised and run lots of fun activities in all my schools and have hopefully had a big impact on cycling levels. Seeing the bike shed at Whitmore School being built with Big Lottery grant money was a particular highlight. I have really enjoyed launching Bike It at Merrylands School and look forward to working closely with them, and all my other schools over the Spring/Summer term. I also look forward to offering free cycle instructor training to parents and school staff from the schools I work with.
