Bike It for me
Do you go to a Bike It school? Congratulations!
You're really special. There are just over 500 Bike It schools in the whole of England and Wales, out of a total of 30,000 schools.
This means you have a great chance to show everyone else how brilliant cycling is for children and if your school does really well, we'll soon have everyone on two wheels.
When you start working with your Bike It officer and getting out and about on your bike, lots of things happen:
- You get fit and healthy (and happy)
- You look good
- You learn how to repair your bike and look after it
- You get safer on the roads and learn how to handle your bike properly
- You show your family how much fun you can have cycling
- You stop using a car or a bus so much
Why you?
We've chosen to work with you and your school because your teachers have shown us they're really keen to have healthy, fit students who can travel independently and who care about their environment. They've shown commitment to the project, and are doing all they can to help you get the most out of your cycling. Everyone prefers having clean green bikes round school in the morning instead of queues of cars and that's safer for everyone - including the planet. Remember, every day you cycle in encourages more people to join in and then it's better for everyone. Some Bike It schools have loads of cyclists now. Try to beat them!
Making the most of Bike It
Here is Bike It officer Gayle, with her advice on how to get the most out of your time with your Bike It officer.
Join in with everything
When your officer runs a Bike breakfast or rides or a bike repair workshop - stick up your hand and get involved. Everything you do makes you better on your bike and we love having lots of cool cycling kids to work with.
Become part of the Bike Crew
All Bike It schools have children who help run the project in school. They get all kinds of opportunities (and a Bike It T shirt) and are really useful to us officers.
Get your whole family involved
Once you become a good cyclist, get your family to come out on bike rides and join Bike It events too.
Not (yet) a Bike It school?
Oh dear...but maybe you could sort that out! Here's how:
Find out if there's a Bike It Officer in your area by checking the Where is Bike It? map. If there is an officer in your area, ask your school to get in touch with them about being a Bike It school.
Even if you don't have a Bike It Officer in your area, your school can get in touch with the council who might be able to organise it for you. Ask a parent, carer or teacher to fill in our Ask for Bike It questionnaire.
To find out a little bit more, look through this website and check out the 'Brilliant Bike It' booklet.

Good luck and we hope to see you very soon!
