The Water Rail Way (Hi-Views)

This 40km stretch of the NCN features vast open fenland landscapes, with long views and expansive skies. To the North stands Lincoln cathedral and to the South St Botolph's church (the ‘Stump'), which on a clear day can be seen from many miles.

Artists Brief:

Belgium architect Paul Robbrecht (Robbrecht en Daem), based in Ghent, were commissioned to create two viewing platforms. The vision was to create innovative micro works of architecture that offer viewing platforms to the public. This work has recently been featured on a leading architectural website: bd - The Architects' Website. A website by Mew Media Design follows the progress of the architect as he developed the concept behind the work: www.hi-views.org.uk

Other works along the route by Anwick Forge, Griffin Memorials and Nigel Sardeson were commisioned to create a sculpture trail inspired by the poems of Alfred, Lord Tennyson and to commemorate the 200th anniversary of this former Poet Laureate who was born in Lincolnshire.

Sally Matthews 'Lincoln Reds' and 'Lincoln Longwool Sheep' and Nigel Sardeson's 'Curly Coat Pigs' were inspired by the surrounding agricultural environment and local breeds of animal.
