Cyngor Tref Prestatyn - Prestatyn Town Council
Defnyddiodd Cyngor Tref Prestatyn £9,000 o arian y Cyngor Chwaraeon i brynu 20 beic (cymysgedd o feiciau mynydd a rhai hybrid), ategolion, cynhwysydd storio a threlar beiciau. Nod y prosiect yw cael trigolion lleol yn fwy corfforol egniol drwy eu hannog i feicio gan ddefnyddio'r cynllun llogi beiciau.
Mae'r Cyngor yn bwriadu cynnal gweithgareddau cymunedol yn ogystal â sesiynau beiciau mynydd wedi'u hanelu at bobl ifanc, ac mae rhai beiciau llai ar gael i annog llogi gan deuluoedd. Mae gan y prosiect gysylltiadau â nifer o arweinwyr beicio cymwys yn yr ardal, ac mae nifer o wirfoddolwyr â diddordeb mewn cymryd rhan.
Llogi Beiciau
Mae'r beiciau ar gael i'w llogi am £2 y sesiwn am unrhyw gyfnod o safle ychydig y tu allan i ganol y dref sydd wedi'i leoli ar y Rhwydwaith Beicio Cenedlaethol yn agos at y môr.
Mae cyfle hefyd i annog defnydd o'r beiciau o amgylch y dref drwy logi o leoliadau canolog, megis y llyfrgell neu dderbynfa'r Cyngor Tref. Byddai roi brand amlwg ar y beiciau yn ffordd dda o hysbysebu'r cynllun a chodi proffil beicio yn yr ardal.
Cysylltiadau â gwerthwr beiciau lleol
Mae'r prosiect yn elwa o gysylltiad cryf gyda gwerthwr beiciau lleol, On-Track. Mae On-Track wedi cyflenwi'r beiciau ac mae gan y cwmni gytundeb cynnal a chadw parhaus gyda'r prosiect. Mae hefyd yn cynnal prosiect arall o'r un lleoliad, yn darparu beiciau hygyrch, megis beiciau tair olwyn, i'w llogi.
Hyfforddiant gwiriadau diogelwch
Er bod On-Track yn gofalu am gynnal a chadw'r beiciau, mae angen cynnal gwiriadau diogelwch syml bob tro y dychwelir beiciau i wneud yn siŵr eu bod yn gweithio'n iawn ar gyfer y llogi nesaf. Er mwyn gwneud hyn mae cynlluniau ar y gweill i ddarparu hyfforddiant gwirio beiciau sylfaenol.
Mae Cyngor Tref Prestatyn wedi dyrannu cyfran o'i gyllideb ei hun i ddatblygu'r cynllun ymhellach ac mae'n benderfynol o weld y prosiect yn cynyddu cyfranogiad mewn beicio yn y dref.
Cynghorion defnyddiol o'r prosiect hwn
- Gall sefydlu cytundeb cynnal a chadw gyda siop feiciau leol fod yn bartneriaeth fuddiol ond mae bod â nifer o bobl yn rhan o'r prosiect sy'n gallu delio â materion cynnal a chadw o ddydd i ddydd yn hanfodol er mwyn sicrhau cynaliadwyedd.
- Byddwch yn barod i roi cynnig ar wahanol bethau; amrywio lleoliad y beiciau, eu rhannu rhwng sawl lleoliad neu gall hyd yn oed gynnig defnydd am ddim er mwyn rhoi hwb i gychwyn y cynllun fod yn syniad da.
- Gall cael aelod taledig o blith y staff i oruchwylio'r cynllun fod yn gymorth mawr, ac mae datblygu rhwydwaith cryf o wirfoddolwyr yn bwysig.

Prestatyn Town Council used £9,000 of Sports Council funding to purchase 20 bikes (a mixture of mountain bikes and hybrids), accessories, a storage container and a cycle trailer. The project aims to get local residents more active through encouraging them to cycle through a bike hire scheme.
The Council aims to run community activities as well as youth oriented mountain biking sessions, and there are some smaller bikes to encourage family hire. The project has links to a number of qualified bike leaders in the area, and several volunteers are interested in getting involved.
Bike hire
The bikes are available to hire for £2 per session of any length, from a site just outside the town centre, located on the National Cycle Network close to the seafront.
There is also scope to encourage use of the bikes around town by hiring from central locations, such as the library or Town Council reception desk. If the bikes are conspicuously branded, this would be a good way of advertising the scheme and raising the profile of cycling in the area.
Links with local bike retailer
The project benefits from strong links with a local bike retailer, On-Track. Having supplied the bikes, On-Track have an ongoing maintenance agreement with the project, and are also running another project from the same location, providing accessible bikes such as tricycles for hire.
Safety check training
While On-Track are looking after maintenance of the bikes, there is a need to carry out simple safety checks each time the bikes come back, to make sure they are in working order for the next hire. To address this, there are plans to provide basic bike check training.
Prestatyn Town Council have allocated a portion of their own budget to develop the scheme further, and are determined to see the project increase participation in cycling within the town.
Useful Tips from this project
- Establishing a maintenance contract with a local bike shop can be a useful partnership, but having a number of people on the project who can deal with day-to-day maintenance issues is essential for sustainability.
- Be willing to try different things; varying the location of the bikes, splitting them between a couple of locations or even offering free use to get the scheme kick started can be a good idea.
- Having a paid member of staff to oversee the project can be a major help, and developing a strong network of volunteers is important.
