Canolfan Chwaraeon Llandrindod - LLandrindod Wells Sports Centre
Derbyniodd Cyngor Sir Powys £15,263 gan Gyngor Chwaraeon Cymru i sefydlu prosiect llogi beiciau yng Nghanolfan Chwaraeon Llandrindod. Mae'r cyngor wedi prynu 12 o feiciau ‘hybrid' (addas ar gyfer y ffordd neu draciau), yn cynnwys 4 maint ‘iau' i annog teithiau teulu. Mae ategolion hefyd ar gael, yn cynnwys helmedi, seddi plant a rac car i'r rheini sydd am deithio'n bellach.
Nod y prosiect yw cael pobl leol yn fwy corfforol egniol drwy gynnig beicio fel gweithgaredd amgen neu weithgaredd ychwanegol ar gyfer y rheini sydd eisoes yn defnyddio'r ganolfan i nofio, mynd i'r gampfa neu chwarae pêl-droed. Mae gan y dref fynediad hawdd at lwybrau beicio atyniadol sy'n addas ar gyfer ystod o allu beicio a lefelau ffitrwydd. Y gobaith hefyd yw y bydd y prosiect yn apelio at dwristiaid sy'n ymweld â'r ardal.
Llogi beiciau
Bydd aelodau cynllun cerdyn hamdden y Cyngor yn gallu defnyddio'r beiciau am ddim fel rhan o'u haelodaeth, a bydd pob llogi arall ar gyfraddau fforddiadwy naill ai fesul awr, hanner diwrnod neu ddiwrnod cyfan. Gall y beiciau gael eu llogi am awr fel y gellir beicio dros awr ginio neu wedi'r gwaith, neu gellir eu benthyg am gyfnodau hwy ar gyfer teithiau penwythnos neu er mwyn cymudo i'r gwaith.
Datblygu'r cynllun llogi beic
Wrth ddatblygu'r cynllun roedd hi'n bwysig ystyried logisteg gweithredu'r system llogi. Roedd cael person yn gyfrifol am wneud gwaith cynnal a chadw'r beiciau yn hanfodol, a hefyd sesiynau hyfforddiant cynnal a chadw beic ar gyfer staff.
"Bob dydd rydych angen nifer o aelodau staff sy'n hyderus i gynnal gwiriadau diogelwch. Os bydd aelodau o'r cyhoedd am logi'r beiciau ar fyr rybudd bydd angen cael rhywun wrth law i drosglwyddo'r beic, gwneud yn siŵr ei fod o'r maint cywir a bod pob gwiriad hanfodol wedi ei wneud.''
Martin Hurst (Cydlynydd Prosiect)
Hyrwyddo'r cynllun
Yn allweddol hefyd i ddatblygiad y cynllun fu cynllun marchnata a hyrwyddo cryf. Mae'n fwriad gan y ganolfan hyrwyddo'r cynllun â thaflen newydd, dolenni ar wefan y cyngor ac mewn cyhoeddiadau twristiaid lleol.
Caiff y beiciau hefyd eu hyrwyddo i weithwyr y cyngor lleol i'w defnyddio ar ymweliadau gwaith ac i grwpiau sy'n defnyddio cyfleusterau cynadledda'r ganolfan chwaraeon.
Powys County Council was awarded £15,263 from the Sports Council for Wales (SCW) to set up a bike hire project at the Llandrindod Wells Sports Centre. The Council has purchased 12 ‘hybrid' bikes (suitable for road or track), including 4 junior sizes to encourage family excursions. Accessories are also available, including helmets, child seats, and a car rack for those who would like to travel further afield.
The aim of the project is to get local people more active by providing cycling as an alternative or additional activity to those who already use the centre to swim, use the gym or play football. The town has easy access to attractive cycle routes for a range of abilities and levels of fitness. It is also hoped that the project will appeal to tourists visiting the area.
Bike hire
Members of the Council's leisure card scheme will be able to use the bikes free of charge as part of their membership, and all other hire will be at an affordable rate for either hourly, half day or all day hire. The bikes can be hired for an hour to allow a quick ride at lunchtime or after work, or can be borrowed for longer periods for weekend adventures or commuting to work.
Developing the bike hire scheme
In developing the scheme it was important to consider the logistics of operating the hire system. Having a person responsible for maintaining the bikes was essential, as was bike maintenance training for staff.
"On a day-to-day basis, you need a number of staff members who are confident to perform the basic safety checks. If you have members of the public wanting to hire the bikes at a moment's notice, you need to have someone on hand to issue the bike, make sure it is the right size and that all the essential checks have been done.''
Martin Hurst (Project Coordinator)
Promoting the scheme
Also key to developing the scheme successfully has been a strong marketing and promotion plan. The centre plans to promote the scheme with a new leaflet, links on the council website and in local tourist publications.
The bikes will also be promoted to local council employees for use on work visits and to groups who use the sport centre's conference facilities.
