- Active in Ashington now has a community walk and ride programme in association with the Ashmore House mental health drop-in centre. This has been extended through a successful bike day at Northgate hospital where nine guided bike rides were carried out for staff and service-users.
- Active in Ashington has been busy running events through the summer months, including a bike related treasure hunt, a 'walk-for-water' day where nearly 100 loan bikes were also issued and various summer bike rides.

January 2009 - Active in Ashington expanded their fleet of recycled bikes for loan.
November 2008 - Active in Ashington's project co-ordinator was joint runner-up for the Wansbeck Works Individual Contribution to the Community Award.
May 2008 - Peter Beardsley onside as volunteer mechanics help Ashington people get on their bikes

About Active in Ashington
Active in Ashingtonaims to increase physical activity levels and sense of well-being amongst residents of Ashington, Northumberland. The project engages with the local community to identify barriers to greater levels of walking and cycling.
Active travel is promoted as a means of accessing employment, schools, local services, parks and green spaces and the wider countryside.
The project invloves improvements to walking and cycling infrastructure, local map production, guided walks and rides, cycle training and bike maintenance skills sessions.
Active in Ashington also recycles bikes donated by the public and works in conjunction with Wansbeck Works and Wansbeck on Wheels to offer loan bikes to the long term unemployed as a form of transportation to the workplace.
