Ashington - Active in Ashington
Active in Ashington is helping residents of South-East Northumberland to become happier and more active. We run a range of activities across the region including led health walks, cycle rides, bike maintenance skills sessions and special events.
Walks and rides are designed to suit all levels of fitness, and we are confident that we have something to fit your timetable and ability.
Regular activities and events
Health walks
We organise a weekly programme of health walks, these are usually 60-90 minutes long.
Cycle rides and training
We run weekly cycle rides for people of all cycling abilities, as well as cycle proficiency training for adults. We also deliver bicycle trials and tasters in the community during summer.
We can also deliver a series of community walks or cycling events for your community group, workplace, or group of friends.
Cycle maintenance training
Our project coordinator Adam is qualified to deliver accredited bike mechanic courses through the Weldtech scheme. Adam runs bike mechanic training sessions weekly on a Monday from 10am-1pm. The sessions cover both basic and intermediate bike maintenance training, if you are interested please call Adam or Mary on: 01670 524063 or email:activeinashington@sustrans.org.uk.
Bike Repair Drop-in
We also hold a weekly drop-in bike repair session. The drop-in sessions run every Thursday from 3pm - 5pm. Anybody requiring a bike repair can come along to the Hirst Welfare Centre at this time where staff and volunteers will be on hand to undertake free safety checks and minor bike repairs.
Bike recycling and loan
In association with the Northumbria police and our community, Active in Ashington recycles donated bikes and also provides loan bikes. Contact us to find out if you are eligible for a free loan bike.
