Healthy Travel Seminars
The performance of the NHS is threatened by transport congestion, parking problems, traffic pollution and poor access to NHS sites for staff as well as patients. NHS managers are charged to implement Travel Plans for their sites under the National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease, the Controls Assurance scheme and the NHS Environmental Strategy.
Sustrans and the Department of Health have recently held a second series of Healthy Travel seminars on the implementation of successful travel plans at major health sites.
The seminars were held at NHS sites in Bristol, Manchester, Portsmouth and Halifax.
The seminars focused on:
- successful case studies of travel plan implementation within the health sector the policy background, including the National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease and the Controls Assurance Standard;
- decision making drivers for travel plans, including effective asset management, relations with neighbouring communities and the impact of health on staff;
- methods and tools for the efficient and effective implementation and evaluation of the travel plan.
