Route Description

From Holyhead in the north to Cardiff or Chepstow in the south, the spectacular Lon Las Cymru runs the entire length of Wales.

With over 250 miles of quiet lanes, and family-friendly traffic free cycle paths that take you over three distinct mountain ranges and two national parks, Lon Las Cymru takes in some of the most stunning and diverse landscapes in the British Isles.

Taking in three mountain ranges it requires a good pair of lungs and a strong pair of legs. The rewards are more than worth it: the scenery is some of the most stunning in the British Isles, including the quiet rural lanes of Anglesey, the majestic woodlands of Coed-y-Brenin Forest, the atmospheric Mawddach Estuary, the lovely valley of the River Wye, followed between Llangurig and Glasbury and the panoramic views enjoyed from Gospel Pass on the route through the Black Mountains.

Route Diversions /Closures

  • The Pont Briwet road bridge has been closed permanently on the grounds of public safety. The new bridge should be open to all users by Summer 2015. In the meantime a long detour (approximately 8 miles) is in place, please follow National Route 82 or the Traffic Diversion signs along the A487 and A496. Alternative options include taking the train between Penrhyndeudraeth and Llandecwyn.

Up for a challenge?  Lôn Las Cymru runs for over 250 miles down the whole length of Wales from Holyhead to Chepstow or Cardiff. It is one of the toughest of all the long distance routes on the National Cycle Network. It can also be broken down into shorter traffic free and challenging sections.
