Community volunteers

A Sustrans community volunteer with her local community and their bikes

We have over 1,000 community volunteers across the UK, promoting the benefits of active travel and inspiring and enabling others to give it a try.

Our community volunteers help people be more active through walking or cycling for more of their everyday journeys.

By encouraging people to travel more sustainably and helping them to make a difference in their community, I benefit too. It makes me feel good, I can give something back to society and I’ve also learnt lots of new skills.

- Tahera, Community volunteer
Sustrans community volunteers give advice about travelling actively and set up walking and cycling activities in their local community, workplace, university or school. They help to promote Sustrans and raise awareness of active travel locally, showing people how easy it is to travel actively in their area.
They help to inspire people of all ages in their local community to travel by foot, bike or public transport. Lots of our community volunteers support people to break down barriers to cycling and help to build their confidence on their bikes.

Anyone can be a community volunteer!

Are you passionate about travelling by foot or by bike and would like to make a difference in your local community?
If you’re enthusiastic and motivated about cycling and walking and would like to support and encourage others in your community to feel the same, we’d love for you to join us.
